Could a cup remove cellulite?

Not long ago I was strolling around in a beauty shop, and I came across the Bellabaci Cups. They seem to offer a pretty believable way to reduce cellulite, but unfortunately they were sold out of the ones for your body (as you also get smaller cups to use on your face). Watch this video to get a better idea of how it works.

It looks a little time-consuming, but I find this much more believable than all those do-nothing creams that only makes your cellulite feel sticky. Please let me know if you have used it before as I haven’t yet tried it for myself (the cups for your face are also pretty intriguing).  Check out http://www.bellabaci.co.za on how to get yours. And watch this space for more, I’m definitely planning on trying them out soon!

The power of antioxidants:

This weekend, I had my antioxidant-levels tested by a scanner-like machine.

It was pretty interesting. Basically, it tells you if your levels are dangerously low, or super-healthy high. Mine was smack bang in the middle. My mom had hers tested and it was really high! This video clip by Dr. Oz pretty much explains it all.

This exercise has taught me to think twice about what I eat, it also made me realise that you can’t cheat your body like you can cheat your mind (insert the old “but this pastry is filled with spinach” line).

I am now determined to pump my body full of good stuff so that next time I get tested I’ll be proud of myself as well as protected against the dangers of cancer. I’m also super glad I stopped smoking 7 months ago, because I was probably in the red back then! I hope this inspires those smokers out there to quit before they regret it. Here’s to the good stuff!

Lose weight: just add water

Ask every celebrity or model how they stay slim, and “by drinking a lot of water” is sure to be part of their answer. I’ve expereinced this for myself when I recently went overseas. The weather was hot and humid, and I must have drunk more than 2 litres a day. Upon my return, I had easily lost 2 kilos! My skin looked good and I felt good. Staying hydrated is such an important part of looking after our bodies.

Easy ways to drink more water:

1. Drink a glass before bed, and one upon waking up in the morning. (that’s 2 down!)

2. Always have a glass next to you at work.

3. After you have gone for a wee, make sure to drink another glass or half a glass.

Why Asian women are skinny (my version)

I recently returned from a trip to the East, and I was amazed at the amount of skinny people wandering the streets (I was in China and Vietnam). The women have beautiful, tight skin, and the only overweight people I saw were some young kids who are obviously being raised on Mc Donald’s. They really inspired me to re-look my lifestyle. Here are some of my observations:

1. I found that the food served in both these countries were always super fresh. Red meat was only a little bit of beef here and there, otherwise it was mostly fish, chicken and pork. Most of their dishes are served in a light broth and with rice.

2. Fruit and vegetables are part of every meal, and the quality produce found in their supermarkets puts Woolworths to shame.

3. Meals are light, and not overpowered with flavour (no salt was found on most restaurant tables).

4. Portions are smaller.

5. I found that because you can’t drink the tap water in these countries, I always carried bottled water with me, so ended up drinking way more water than I normally would. You also sweat a lot from the heat, so you make an effort to stay hydrated.

6. Chocolates and potato chips are not very popular there. I couldn’t figure out what half of it was, but they seem to snack on dried seafood, fruit and vegetables rather than fried or baked things. When I had a Snickers bar there, the sweetness was nauseating!

7. I walked a lot while I was there, this could be because I was on holiday, but the average Chinese is definitely much more active than your average South African.

8. They eat a proper breakfast, usually the type of dishes you would eat for lunch or dinner. I also spotted a lot of oats in the shops.

All in all, I think Western women can learn some lessons from our Asian counterparts and their eating habits. Time to work on those Dim Sum skills!

Best body over 40

And the prize goes to … 42 year-old Jennifer Aniston, who has a body most 20 year-olds would die for.

Thanks for the inspiration, Jen.

Miranda Kerr had a baby?

Yes, this is what Miranda Kerr looks like 6 months after giving birth! Not fair.

Today’s body inspiration: Rihanna

This girl has no hips! And her stomach is super flat which makes me quite jealous. But her legs are normal, so the contrast of her skinny upper-body can make her legs seem bigger than they really are. Well, that’s my theory. Enjoy!

She’s got a great bum by the way.

Today’s body inspiration: Zoe Saldana

The 33-year old star of Avatar has the kind of body most women would trade their right leg for, not to mention a beautiful face (of course).

I admire the fact that she hasn’t succumbed to breast implants, and makes do with what God gave her.

Right, who’s up for the gym?

It’s Spring day! (Oh shit, Summer is coming)

Spring day itself is usually overcast and not that eventful, however, for those of us who care about what we look like in a bikini, Spring day signifies the start of the  3-month countdown to Summer. A lot can be achieved in three months, but, if like myself you’re not quite ready to get out of bed everyday at 6am to go running yet, then buy some extra help to make you look pre-ready for your bikini.

To kick off Spring, I have invested in a light self-tanner that I can use on my body and face. I’m also going on a little beach holiday to Vietnam soon, so this will definitely come in handy, as one does not want to scare the locals away. I haven’t used Piz Buin before, and I’m relying on its good name to not make me smell like, well, self-tan.

A bit of colour is all I need (for now).

One of my favourite snacks

I love walking around the Wellness Warehouse in Kloof Street, I could spend hours staring at the amazing range of healthy products that they stock. One of my favourite finds are Chocolate-covered Goji berries.

The brand they stock is called “Sonoma”, and it will set you back around R42 per pack. You could get about three decent “snackings” out of each pack, I finished mine in two (had severe chocolate cravings). Everyone knows by now that Goji berries are very high in anti-oxidants and other good stuff (it is considered to be one of the 10 Superfoods), and a little dark chocolate is also not bad, so those who say that you can’t enjoy something sweet without it making you fat are clearly still getting their snacks from the 7 Eleven.
